Project Overview

I teamed up with a group of researchers on an NHS project to dive into something pretty important—understanding how new parents use their child’s Redbook. For those who might not know, the Redbook is a little health record book given to parents in the UK to track their child’s health and development. The project’s goal was to figure out just how much parents were actually using it, what they found useful, and where there might be gaps. We wanted to gather insights that could help improve how this crucial tool is used and maybe even suggest some updates to make it more user-friendly for today’s parents (i.e. making the content available online as a digital app)

The project was a true collaboration. We brought together researchers with different backgrounds and expertise to get a well-rounded view of the situation. Our approach was a mix of surveys, interviews, and focus groups with new parents to really dig into how they were using the Redbook (or not using it). My role involved helping to conduct interviews, designing the research tools and analysing the data we collected. I also was tasked with creating an Airtable system that we used to measure particular metrics of the project.

Project Outcome

The research gave us some pretty interesting insights. We found that while many parents appreciated having the Redbook as a record, not everyone was using it consistently. Some parents found it a bit old-school, especially in a digital age where everything else is online. Others loved the tangible aspect but felt it could be more intuitive. Our findings are now being used to inform potential updates to the Redbook, making it more accessible and useful for today's parents.
